Overton series

Bodys oscillate with their base-frequency and overtones. Geometry and material of the body determinates number and intensety of the overtones and so the sound.

A sound can be disperesed in single frequencys with Fourier analysis. Here Wolfgang Martin Storch has shown how to disperesed a sound into its frequencys with the costfree and linux compatible software AudaCity.

If 2 tones sound together a beating occurs. The waveform determinates over its dissonance/consonance. Overtones resonate better together than diatonic chromatic tones.

All intervals of the diatonic scale can be constructed by the overtone row.
